Congo

Congo in in war and yet many Americans have not heard much about it. Until a few days ago I have only know that it was not safe for women to travel to the DRC yet after that I knew nothing. I never knew that rape was a weapon of war which tears apart families and communities. I never knew that Tutsis and Hutus are still fighting, from Rwanda, into the DRC. And I never knew that it was considered the deadliest war. Yet I do now. It is hard to hear all the facts. As an American we feel safe in our suburban neighborhoods  and we never depend on aid to protect us. In America when rape happens people are convicted and the women are not to blame. However in the DRC, women can be left and divorced because they were raped and the people who commit these acts are very rarely caught. 1 in 3 men in the DRC have performed some form of rape. It is an awful and terrible act that I can't imagine. Now here I am trying to write about it. Write about the terror and torches that the women must go through to live in the DRC. Yet again Americans never hear about it. We are never taught about it in school and it is not listed in textbooks, but it should be. It should be taught and people all around should be listening not turning a blind eye because we are guilty that we did nothing during the Rwandan Genocide. So here it is before our eyes in the DRC, it is a chance for us to redeem ourselves from our non-actions in Rwanda but yet again we sit and do nothing. We hope that someone else will and still nobody will. And so women continue to be raped, men continue to rape, and all around Congolese are being killed while we Americans watch a happy program on television.

Defining Africa

When I think of Africa the first thing I think of is jungles and all the animals that resided in the jungles. Another thing that goes along with the jungles and the animals is animal poaching that go on in Africa.

Lastly I think of Blood Diamonds and all the suffering that people go through to get them so other people can wear a diamond on their finger.

Brave Syrian

Big Al is amazing. It is very easy to say, as you are comfortable in your 5 bedroom house that if anything happens you would never leave. It is one thing however to follow through. If my country was in the middle of a civil war like Syria, while I would hate to admit it I don't think that there is a chance I would stay when things turn violent, let alone protest them. Also If it was banned I doubt I would chance things and start posting my thoughts on a blog. If I could talk to the Syrians who are doing just that I would say thank you! You are telling everyone across the world what really is happening. You are risking your life to do it but you are sharing things that the news anchors would never cover. All we hear is about 30 seconds of how many people died then they move on to a different story. These are real words coming from a real person who is living through all of this. So again I thank you, because I along with a lot of other people are learning about what is a happening in Syria and becoming less ignorant.

Peace and coexistence

At this point, I do not think peace is possible. There is so much tension and fear surrounding the different Arab countries and Israel that is would be hard for them to coexist. How if the Palestinians and Israelis could settle their differences and share the land, civilly, then peace could be possible. However that is extremely hard because both sides want to settle the fighting but at the same time they want to have a better outcome. It also does not help because both sides have different allies, which the other side's allies do not normally make friends with...you follow? The Arab countries have normally sided with the Soviet Union and other Arab states, However Israelis have sided with the USA which cause a lot of problems for the Arab nations. If both sides come to an agreement then the Arab nations and the USA will have no choice but to agree and live with it which will allow peace to be created. One peace is possible the coexistence is so follow which will settle things down.

My Redline and Nuclear Right

To me, Iran does have the right to have nuclear technology however I do not think they should have the right to nuclear weapons. People are nervous because they are unable to know what Iran's next move with be. For Iran to have nuclear technology, I think they must comply to all the regulations. For example Iran should allow inspections in all nuclear facilities not just one or two. When Iran does not agree to the regulations that is when action needs to be taken. People should force the regulations on all countries because when someone breaks the treaty and nothing is done then there was no point in anyone signing the treaty. My personal redline for any country if I was president is when they do not adhered to the regulations. Again you signed the treaty so you should follow it not just do what you want to. It would be a very scary world if all countries could go and make nuclear weapons, you would always have to watch over you shoulder. What would be wonderful would be if there was no nuclear weapons at all however that will most likely never happen. So all countries will have to keep each other in check and make sure that people are following the regulations

Cyberspace in Iran

Just like the US, Iran has become very interested in technology. The government however, has not like that one bit. I feel that even with the crack downs on technology in Iran by the government the youth will continue to use technology to get want they want and to communicate with each other. The youth, just like in the US, would love to communicate with people outside of the US to tell them their story and information about the youth so that other countries does not view Iran by just the way the media portrays them. however their government does not approve of that. And while the government is trying their best to stop the communication with certain people, the youth are finding new ways to get around the blocks. No matter how much the government tries to take away the technology from its citizens, the youth will get around the blocks and still try to get to the social media. When there is so many youth members, who have not grown up with the Shah ruling, they will fight for what they want. When the government goes against what the youth wants, the youth will revolt and you get another green movement, where the government will fight against the protest. When the government fights against what the youth wants, who by the way makes up most of the country, social media will blow up. Then of course everyone hears about what is going on in Iran and that gives the youth the incentive to continue to revolt and fight for what they believe in.  The youth will use technology to demand what they want. They are not allowed to protest without getting a pass for it. With technology the youth can stay what they want without being thrown into jail, or worse killed. Hearing about how strict the Iranian government is becoming with technology makes you think twice about how lucky we are with freedoms in the US. We have the right to post and say what ever we want to a certain degree while the people of Iran have no freedoms that are similar to ours in the views on technology.
